Define Yourself: A Guided Reflection Using the Define Planner

Define Yourself: A Guided Reflection Using the Define Planner

Welcome to Classes with Katelyn! If you’ve been joining us on TikTok Live, you already know how powerful the Define Planner can be for more than just organization—it’s a tool for self-discovery. Today, we’re focusing on a foundational page in your planner: Define Yourself.

This page is designed to help you build self-awareness, clarify your values, and reconnect with your purpose. Whether you're a student, a creative, a caregiver, or someone simply trying to live with more intention—this is your chance to check in with you.

Grab your planner, a pen, and maybe a notebook for deeper reflection. Let’s begin.

From “Balance Your Plate” to “Define Yourself”

In our first class, we explored the Balance Your Plate exercise—looking at how your time and energy are divided. Now, we’re asking the deeper question:
Does how I spend my time reflect who I am?

This is where the Define Yourself page steps in. Think of it as your inner blueprint—a space to reflect on what truly matters so you can return to it when life feels chaotic or off-track.

Your 4 Core Values

Let’s start with your core values. These are the beliefs and principles that shape your decisions, guide your relationships, and reflect what matters most.

Start by writing a master list. Think of words like:

  • Kindness

  • Growth

  • Creativity

  • Balance

  • Freedom

  • Honesty

  • Family

  • Authenticity

Then narrow it down to just four. Why only four? Because focus brings clarity. When everything feels important, it’s easy to feel scattered. But four values act like a compass, keeping you grounded.

Here’s an example:

  • Family – I want to make space for both ambition and rest.

  • Authenticity – I want to show up as my real self, not who I think I should be.

  • Compassion – I care deeply about how I treat others and myself.

  • Growth – I want to keep evolving, even if it’s uncomfortable.

A Quote That Inspires You

Quotes can serve as anchors—short bursts of wisdom that offer clarity when you need it most. Ask yourself:
What words do I want to live by this season?

Here’s one we love:

“Your thoughts are seeds. You can grow flowers, or you can grow weeds.”

Choose a quote that reflects your current journey, and write it down.

What Motivates You?

Next, let’s explore what motivates you. Understanding your “why” can help you push through challenges and stay connected to your goals.

There are two types of motivation:

  • Intrinsic: Internal drivers like passion, curiosity, or purpose.

  • Extrinsic: External rewards like money, recognition, or praise.

A strong sense of motivation usually blends both.
Here’s an example:

I’m motivated by the belief that I can create a life that feels like mine—one filled with love and purpose. I’m also driven by my desire to prove to myself that I’m capable of whatever I set my mind to.

Ask yourself: What fuels you—even when things get uncomfortable?

Words or Phrases I Live By

These are your mantras—the small reminders that bring you back to center. Think of them as guiding lights.

Here are a few ideas:

  • “Done is better than perfect.”

  • “Protect your peace.”

  • “Trust the process.”

  • “Live intentionally, love unconditionally.”

They’re not rules—they’re invitations to show up as your best self.

Activities, Hobbies & Passions That Bring You Joy

Now, list the things that make you feel most alive.

Why this matters:

  • Joy is a compass—it points to what nourishes you.

  • Fulfillment builds resilience.

  • Your passions offer clues to your purpose.

  • Hobbies often lead to a state of flow, which improves mental well-being.

Examples:

  • Painting or drawing

  • Journaling or writing

  • Swimming

  • Cooking

  • Reading

  • Volunteering

  • DIY or crafting

  • Learning new skills

Think about what lights you up—and what you may want to make more space for.

Do I Navigate Each Day With Purpose?

This question is at the heart of intentional living.

Purpose is the “why” behind your actions. It creates clarity, motivation, and meaning—even in the smallest of tasks. But it’s also normal for purpose to ebb and flow.

Ask yourself:

  • On a scale of 1–10, how purposeful do I feel each day?

  • When do I feel most in alignment or “in flow”?

  • What habits support my purpose—and what distracts me?

  • What’s one small change I could make to live more intentionally?

Example:

Some days, yes. When I plan my mornings and check in with my goals, I feel really purposeful. But other days, I go on autopilot and just check boxes. I think I need to be more intentional with how I start my day.

Bringing It All Together

The Balance Your Plate exercise shows you the external picture. The Define Yourself page reveals your internal truth. And when those two align? You feel clear, confident, and connected to your purpose.

Everything you write on this page is more than just ink on paper—it’s a mirror of your values and the life you want to create.

Let this page be a touchstone. Revisit it weekly, monthly, or whenever life feels off-center.

You showed up for yourself today—and that matters. I’m proud of you.

Keep defining who you are and building a life that feels like yours.
